With half of $225 needed and a promise to pay back the balance, I took my mom to J. C. Penney's to purchase my first camera on a hot July day in 1977. At that moment, my photography began in earnest.
I started coaching in 1984 and have trained athletes in baseball, football, and basketball, as well as tennis and track and field. I have a Masters Degree in exercise science from Texas State University, a Bachelors degree in PE/Health from the University of Texas at Austin, and I'm certified in life science/biology.
After coaching for 15 years, I started Freeze Frame!!! Photography to combine my background in sports with my creativity in photograpy. I can capture an image of your athlete in action, or provide team and individual photos with flair. I'm also available for events, family protraits and weddings.
Athletics are a way of life in my family. My wife Tracy coaches basketball. You can generally find us watching our son Korson running: down the field, up the court or around the bases. In our spare time, we travel and visit our country's historical sites and natural resources.
Watching an athlete hit a grand slam, make the winning touchdown or cross the finish line is exciting. But when it's your child, the excitement escalates to joy, pride and even a tear of happiness. I'm David Hastings and, like you, I'm a parent who enjoys wathcing my child succeed. I'm also a coach and photographer who is passionate about capturing that moment of success on film.
I've been coaching professionally since 1984. I've had the privilege of training and watching high school and middle school athletes shine as they combine their God-given talents with listening skills and good attitudes. I've also been a photographer for over 40 years. Because I love sports, it only makes sense that I use my skills to bring the best of athletics and photography together.
Understanding the nuances of the sport is key to getting quality photos. Whether it's jumping hurdles in track and field or serving for match point in tennis, this intimate understanding helps me:
Know my Subject: After coaching for more than 25 years, I know my subject well. I know the ins-and-outs of both the sport and the athlete. This knowledge, based on my experience and my love of the game, opens the door for me to capture excellent shots with a creative touch.
Anticipate: Anticipation is important for most photographers, but it's especially crucial in sports photography. My ability to accurately anticipate means I can be a step ahead of the athlete and ensures that I catch an amazing shot.
My Philosophy: In the midst of the action, your child's story is written on his or her face. I want to catch the determination and focus in your child's eyes as he runs the bases or as she kicks the winning goal.
These are once-in-a-lifetime moments. I want to capture them on film so you and your child will have memories of these wonderful moments in his or her young life.
